This has been a whirlwind introduction to loading World Bank data using the API and visualizing it in R. If you want to dive deeper into R, I suggest the following textbook (which is online for free, but available in paper form too).
It was co-authored by the creator of the ggplot package, Hadley Wickham, so it generally presents the current best way to get things done in R.
